Rector's scholarship

CURRENT INFORMATION ON THE RECTOR’S SHOLARSHIP IN 2024/2025

• The Rector’s scholarship shall be awarded to a student after completing the first year of his/her studies with the grade average not lower than 4.00, outstanding academic, scientific and artistic achievements, or competitive sporting achievements at least at national level, in accordance with the “Criteria for awarding the Rector’s Scholarship at the University of Opole”
• First year MA students who have completed their BA studies at a different faculty of the University of Opole, or at a different university shall attach a certificate of their grade average obtained for the last two semesters of the first-cycle (BA or BEng) studies.
• The Rector’s scholarship can be awarded to a student admitted to the first year of studies in the year of taking the maturity examination who is the laureate of an international secondary school contest or the laureate or finalist of a secondary school contest at the central level, as referred to in the legislation on the education system;
• The Rector’s scholarship for the best students can only be awarded at one of the programmes studied.
• The Rector’s scholarship can be awarded to first-year students of the second-cycle studies who started the second-cycle studies within one year of completing their first-cycle studies,

• The Rector’s scholarship is awarded to no more than 9.5% of students of each study programme with no breakdown into years, or the mode (full-time, part-time), and with a breakdown into cycles of studies.
• The scholarship is awarded upon a student’s application.

Deadlines for submitting applications in the USOSweb system:

• From October 10 to October 20, 2024 for students continuing their studies and first year students, except for students of second-cycle programmes commencing their studies in February 2024;
• From March 4 to March 14, 2025 for students admitted in the summer semester.

Applications need to be submitted in the USOSweb system with attachments confirming additional achievements in the pdf format. How to correctly submit an application for the Rector’s scholarship:

1. In the USOS-web, the student electronically fills in an application for the Rector’s scholarship for the best students
2. Uploads all required attachments.

The student is required to submit the original documentation at the request of the Scholarship Committee. Please check the status of your application at the USOSweb and read the e-mail (student’s e-mail account) and if necessary, submit any remarks. Scholarships are transferred to the personal accounts of students or doctoral students. The student’s personal bank account number must be entered in the USOSweb in the SCHOLARSHIPS tab. NOTE: In order obtain the scholarship the student must collect the decision! Decisions shall be delivered electronically! NOTE:

• The Rector’s scholarship for the best students is not available to the student:
  • who takes his/her leave from classes,
  • who is repeating a semester or an academic year and while waiting for the repetition of the semester
  • who is continuing studying on the basis of a conditional credit,
  • who failed to complete the previous academic year studying at the University, with the exception of first-year students of the second degree, who started the second-cycle studies within one year of completing their first-cycle studies,
  • who is holding a professional title (The provision applies to persons possessing professional titles obtained abroad as well):
    • MA, MEng, or equivalent,
    • BA, BEng, or equivalent, if he/she resumes first cycle or long-cycle studies.
  • during the extension period for taking the diploma exam,
  • who has received a disciplinary sanction.
• The total period for which the benefits referred to in Section 3(1)(1)-(4) of the Rules on Benefits for Students of the UO are available is 12 semesters, irrespective of the student’s collection of the benefits, with the proviso that within this period the benefits are available for studies at:
• • first-cycle studies – no longer than for 9 semesters;
  • second-cycle studies – for no longer than 7 semesters.
• The total period referred to in Section 7(2) of the Rules on Benefits for Students of the UO is longer by 2 semesters if the student undertook a long-cycle master’s degree programme, the duration of which is 11 or 12 semesters as specified by the law.
• The period referred to in Section 7(2) and (3) of the Rules on Benefits for UO Students includes all semesters of studies referred to in subsection 1 started by the student, including semesters during which the student took leave referred to in Article 85(1)3 of the Law on Higher Education, with the exception of semesters of consecutive first-cycle studies started or continued after the student obtained the first bachelor’s degree, engineer degree or an equivalent degree. In the case of education in more than one field of study, semesters taken simultaneously are treated as one semester.
• A student who defended his/her master’s (bachelor’s) thesis before the date specified in the study rules loses the right to scholarships (except for the minister’s scholarships) as of the month following the defence.
• A student who applies for or receives a benefit referred to in Article 86(1)(1) and (2) and (4) shall immediately notify the higher education institution of the occurrence of any circumstances giving rise to the loss of entitlement to the benefit pursuant to Article 93(3)-(8) of the Law on Higher Education.
